Forensic Odontology is an unexplored yet one of the crucial aspects of forensic science dealing with the investigation of cases and natural disasters as well. The field utilizes the important aspects of the human dentition, which can unfold relatively broader intricacies of the case with accuracy and reliability. DNA extraction, bite mark analysis, disaster victim management, and individualization on the basis of the characteristics of their dentition are some of the major aspects that are dealt with in Forensic Odontology. So, here we are putting some limelight onto the investigation of the crimes committed against women and children involving forensic odontology and also the reconstructive identifications based on real-life cases. This session also focuses on human remains identification even in the advanced stages of decomposition from an Expert’s point of view.

  • How Forensic Odontology aids in criminal investigation?

    Forensic Odontology deals with the examination of dental remains and other characteristics like bite marks for individualization and mainly in disaster management.

    The workshop would provide real-life insights through real cases of the challenges and techniques that are implemented and used to investigate the crime from the Expert’s eyes.

    Dr. Hemlata Pandey is the first in India to establish a Forensic Odontology Department in a Government Hospital and also to become a member of the Disaster Victim Identification Team.
