The Power of a Picture: Identifying People through Images of their Hand's

For ages, scientific and non-scientific body identification techniques have been used by forensic investigators to identify bodies. This involves requesting that a family member or friend of the victim visually identify the body. This method is helpful when the body is partially decomposed.

Then the person known to the deceased can easily identify them and confirm their identity. Authorities will also compare supportive documents such as a driver's license, passport, or other authoritative photo ID before accepting a personal identification.

In the process of identifying the potential suspect through his hand photo, The investigators take a series of photos until one matches the one found at the crime scene or any other source belonging to the victim.

The comparison is then made by the expert with the suspect's known hands and the questioned ones. Even if one finger matches, the suspect can be further questioned or taken into custody, as structure and vein patterns like fingerprints are unique to every individual.

In this webinar on "The Power of a Picture: Identifying People through Images of Their Hands", the speaker will discuss the process that goes behind this type of investigation and its admissibility in court.
