Dr. Charesma Grace K. Lud-Ayen : Forensic Excellence Award 2024

Dr. Charesma Grace Killip-Lud-Ayen is a distinguished criminologist, researcher, national lecturer, and speaker, currently holding the position of Dean of the School of Criminal Justice and Public Safety at the University of Baguio, Philippines. Her impressive academic journey is marked by numerous accomplishments, including earning multiple degrees from the same institution: a Bachelor of Science in Criminology (Cum Laude), a Doctor of Philosophy in Criminal Justice with Specialization in Criminology (Cum Laude), and a Doctor of Philosophy in Developmental Education.


She received the Forensic Excellence Award at the 15th IASR International Conference on Forensic Science for her deep commitment to advancing criminal justice education and research and for influencing criminology and public safety studies in the Philippines with her leadership skills.


Academic Excellence and Leadership

Dr. Lud-Ayen has lots of noteworthy achievements to her credit, like ranking 8th in the 2004 licensure examinations for criminologists and consistently being recognized as a top-performing educator at the University of Baguio. She began her academic journey in 2004 when she joined as a faculty member, and since then she has held numerous leadership roles, including student body adviser, research coordinator, and program chair, before becoming dean. Her academic leadership brilliance was acknowledged further when she was named Top 1 Outstanding Academic Head by the Private Education Retirement Annuity Association (PERAA).


Strong Institutional and Government Partnerships

Dr. Lud-Ayen has made up significant partnerships with both government and non-government organizations to uplift the criminal justice education system in the Philippines. She has been a part of several advisory councils, including the PNP Anti-Cybercrime Group Cordillera, the Philippine National Police Training Institute (Regional Training Center 1), and the Bureau of Jail Management and Penology. Her contribution further extends to the Professional Regulation Commission, where she is a member of the Careers of the Progression and Specialization Program Management Committee.


National Recognition and International Contributions

Being a national expert in the sociology of crimes, correctional administration, and criminal detection and investigation, Dr. Lud-Ayen is a sought-after lecturer and speaker at various conferences. She was recently honored as a judge in the 2023 QS Reimagine Education Awards by QS Quacquarelli Symonds, which proves her influence in the academic community. Not only nationally, she has also been recognized internationally. She serves as a session chairperson and jury member at the 14th International Conference on Forensic Science organized by the International Association of Scientists and Researchers in collaboration with SIFS India.


Research and Professional Engagement

Dr. Lud-Ayen has extensively contributed to the forensic domain through her research work, along with presentations at local and international conferences and publications in reputable journals.

Dr. Lud-Ayen’s research contributions are extensive, with presentations at local and international conferences and publications in reputable journals. She is also actively involved with various professional bodies. She is an officer and Regional Secretary for the Professional Criminologists Association of the Philippines (PCAP)—Cordillera and Vice Chairperson of the Council of Criminal Justice Educators—Cordillera. She is also an active member of the Institute of Industry and Academic Research, the Asia Pacific Movement for the Advancement of Pedagogy and Research, and the Asian Qualitative Research Association.


Dedication to Students and Criminology Education

In her role as an educator, she is highly dedicated and passionate about ensuring that her students achieve their goals. Apart from her teaching, learning, research, and administrative duties, she is a mentor, an advisor, and a and a counselor for students as well as the faculty. She is a supporter and promoter of an education system that focuses both on the academic and character development of the students. Her commitment to professional development has created an impact in criminology education in the Philippines, shaping the future leaders in the field through her mentorship and leadership.

Dr. Charesma Grace K. Lud-Ayen’s exceptional combination of academic accomplishments, leadership in criminology education, and active involvement in both national and international professional networks makes her a dynamic force in the field. She works tirelessly to inspire and guide future generations of criminologists through her role as an educator, where she blends theory and practice to equip students with the tools needed to excel in criminal justice and public safety.
