Micro Certificate Program in Police Sketching is a 5-hour introductory course to introduces law enforcement, forensic professionals, and artists with a desire to turn their passion into purpose to the fundamentals of police sketching as an investigative tool. Designed for participants with little or no formal art training, the course emphasizes observation, communication, and procedure rather than artistic skill. Students learn the role and value of facial composites in investigations, basic facial anatomy and proportion, and the principles of translating witness descriptions into visual form. The course also covers sketch interview fundamentals, common challenges affecting witness memory, ethical considerations, and proper use of sketches in criminal investigations. By the end of the course, participants will understand when and how police use sketches, their limitations, and how facial composites support investigative efforts alongside other identification methods.
